In 1977 Vasudeva Barnao began making Australian flower essences. Starting initially in New South Wales, he carried on the research, moving to the botanically renowned "Wild Flower State" where an ancient tradition of flower essence therapy has been used by the Aboriginal Nyoongah peoples for thousands of years.  There he met Kadambii and they began to work together expanding the range of essences.

In depth research has led to a wealth of products covering the common needs of the general public and the specific needs of therapists in health practice. These products are now used in hospitals (pre- and post-operatively), nursing homes and drug rehabilitation centers.  The healing techniques using the Living Essences have spread to every continent where they are used by families, in hospitals, by medical and natural therapists alike to enhance the quality of people's lives through deep inner healing and relief from pain and stress.

The flower essences produced by Living Essences are also being used by other manufacturers of health and beauty products to enhance the health and beautifying potential of their own products.

Essences such as Dampiera and Menzies Banksia are well known for their remarkable healing effects on pain, bringing in a new age solution to an age-old problem.

Vasudeva and Kadambii Barnao are also founders of the Australasian Flower Essence Academy, which holds diploma courses from years 1 to 5, practitioner intensives, and video correspondence courses for English and non-English speaking students all over the world. They have also been invited by Curtin University in Perth to establish the first flower essence university course in the world, the course being for post graduate nurses.

Flower essences are very subtle healing preparations that hold the unique properties of a particular flower. These properties trigger the natural mechanisms in the human being to restore balance and wholeness.

The aboriginal people felt that flower essences gave them a "new Spirit", others may use words differently, but the experience of healing and renewal is still common when using flower essences. 

Flower essences are natural health elixirs derived from flowers. They come from nature and have proven to be health generating in many areas of life including physical, mental and spiritual. 

Flower essences work by unlocking the inner wisdom (conscious, subconscious and unconscious) innate within every human being. Faulty attitudes, with the consequent negative reactions to life situations, can cause physical disease, unpleasant mental states and are obstructive in the fulfilment of our desired goals. 

Medical science now recognises that stress and negative mind states can alter body chemistry and create physical disease. For instance, recent medical studies prove that depression is a greater cause of heart disease than smoking. Researchers found that in depressed people the blood platelets became more sticky, clogging arteries and veins. Depressed people lose hope, they view life from a negative perspective, lacking optimism and positivity. 

Flower essences are the proverbial “healing message in a bottle”. Each species of flowering plant has developed unique characteristics to enhance its ability to survive and thrive. The inner wisdom or blueprint for the forming of these characteristics is found in the flower. A flower essence contains these unique life enhancing concepts as messages . These messages have been found to be as beneficial to humans and animals as they are to the parent plant. When a human has a negative or faulty message running through their system, the right flower essence can encourage the healthy message being reinstated and strengthened. 

Flower essences are gentle but effective for both physical symptoms and their causes. They will not overpower the will of a person like drugs do, and do no harm, as the body will only take up messages that are appropriate. They will work effectively when used correctly and prescribed correctly, on any person or animal, of any age. 

Flower essences come in working stock concentrates and are then diluted for use. Place two drops in a 15ml bottle including brandy, vegetable glycerin, or cider vinegar  From this, one drop is taken orally 4 times per day.
